Valentyn Metyk
Artist
Valentyn Metyk was born in 1992 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. He studied painting, drawing and anatomy through private lessons. Since 2015 he has taken part in a wide range of exhibitions, and since 2019 he has lived and worked in Kyiv.
The visual language of my works is built on three colours — blue, red and violet.
Blue stands for inner harmony, spiritual growth and unity with the world. Red — for emptiness, degradation and destructive energy. Violet, which appeared during the war, embodies the state of choice — the moment when a person stands between light and darkness.
I work with symbolism. The human figures in my paintings have only a mouth and ears — they listen and spread information, but they do not see.
The eye is the central symbol of awareness. It appears both in those who choose the path of inner growth and in those who cultivate destructive energy, and its form changes depending on the path chosen.
My practice is rooted in personal experience and explores the inner states of a person — their spiritual transformations and the constant choice between light and darkness.
